Ariel is the main character in Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated film “The Little Mermaid” (1989). She is a fictional character who also appears in the film’s prequel television series (1992—1994), the direct-to-video sequel “The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea” (2000), and the direct-to-video prequel “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning” (2008). Jodi Benson provides the voice for Ariel in all official animated appearances and related merchandise. She holds the distinction of being the fourth princess in the Disney Princess lineup, the first princess who is not human, and the only princess who eventually becomes a mother.
