ARMA (stylized as ARMA) is a series of first-person tactical military shooters initially developed for Microsoft Windows. Known for its emphasis on realism and simulation, the franchise combines large-scale military operations that span expansive terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The series’ first installment debuted in 2006, followed by subsequent titles released up to 2013. Over time, the games have expanded to include versions for Linux, Android, and iOS platforms.
The inaugural game, *ARMA: Armed Assault*—also called *ARMA: Combat Operations* in the United States—launched for Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, in February 2007 across Europe, and in May 2007 in the United States. It utilized the Real Virtuality 2 engine.
The latest entry, *ARMA 3*, is a standalone title for Windows, released on September 12, 2013. It was initially available to the public via Steam’s Early Access starting March 5, 2013. An earlier version of *ARMA 3* was also released for Linux and Mac systems in late 2015 to early 2016, with plans to synchronize these versions more closely with the main Windows release.
